Magic. It's dying. The general population doesn't know it. They can't feel it. The mundane, the uninitiated - they can't sense the lines of magic that course through the earth like veins, all running to power nodes. But the supernatural, the mutants, and the demigods alike all depend on the existence of magic. They rely on it to function. Stray too far from one, and the vampires turn to corpses, the shapeshifters turn to animals, the mutants cease to be able to manipulate creation, and the demigods lose access to their heavenly lineage. Slowly, one by one, the nodes have been draining. Vancouver and Hong Kong are the last remaining major cities with a functioning power source. Vancouver's reigning council has closed the city to outsiders, preferring to keep their home clean of vagabonds and preserve what's left of the magic they reside upon, hoping it'll be enough to save them.
