Our dreams can create worlds beyond our understanding, yet our recollection of them fade within the waking hours. They fade, as light casts shadows upon the our faces and we rid ourselves of fantastic notions. Emerging from the cocoon of another place we go about our daily lives without giving our dreams much a passing thought. At night, we watch the news, read the blogs, and catch the feeds -- the world is falling apart and, as a whole, humanity remains apathetic about it. We say our good nights and partake in our nightly rituals, no matter how sordid they might be, and find ourselves ready to fall fast asleep. Only then you don't wake from your next dream. You find ourselves in a dark, twisted fantasy of the worst imaginations possible. Some one took every story, every legend and glued them all together ... and it came out wrong. Pain is mistaken for pleasure, violence and slavery are among the pettiest of crimes you witness and suddenly -- you wake again. You're one of the lucky ones, the death you felt in your dream merely woke you. Others are dying, left in comas, or worse. What you remember so vividly as merely a horrific dream is having very real consequences upon the waking world. They give you a few pills and a number to call in a few days, tell you that you'll be fine. Except everything isn't fine. So when you take that last look in the mirror, tonight, you remember something you heard in your supposed dream: Will you return to that nightmare and own your sins, or will you make tomorrow's memory your last? | ||||
